James Rex Yarbrough, Sr., 78, of Waco passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Lake Shore Village after a long and courageous battle. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4 at Bellmead First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Bruce Austin
officiating. Burial will be at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3 at Bellmead Funeral Home.
James, better known as “J Rex” was born Aug. 14, 1925 in Chandler, Texas. He graduated from Chandler High School in 1942, then attended Baylor University for a year when he entered the Coast Guard during WWII, serving until 1946. He returned to Baylor part-time and received his BBA degree in 1949. In 1957 he married Naida Prause Langan and to this marriage was born a son, Rodney Earle Yarbrough. He was employed for a long time with the US Federal Auditing Team, however most of his active employment was with the St. Louis-Southwestern Railway (Cotton Belt) Company where he served for 37 years, retiring in January of 1984.
James loved cattle ranching and traveling. He and his wife, Naida, enjoyed flying and touring the entire United States and most of the better known countries of the world.
He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Lee Yarbrough Sr.; mother, Lena Bryant Yarbrough; brother, Archie Lee Yarbrough, Jr.; and infant sister, Frances.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Naida Yarbrough; sons, Rodney Earle Yarbrough and James Rex Yarbrough; and stepdaughters, Patricia Rose Langan Aldridge and Vera Catherine Langan Hazelwood.
Pallbearers will be his church friends, Jim Anderson, Leroy Barrier, Bob Gentry, Marvin Goldsmith, Bill Owen and Rolan Swank. Honorary pallbearers will be his longtime railroad friend, Lex Lee and the remaining members of Bellmead First Baptist Church where he was a member and usher for many years
