Funeral services for James Richard Walker, 14-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Walker of Lorena, who was drowned Tuesday in a water trough at the Walker’s farm as he  played with a sister, Earlene 6, were held from China Spring Baptist church Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. R. E. Scranton officiated, burial was in China Spring cemetery Comptom’s in charge.

His parents and sister are the only survivors.

After recovering the baby from the trough, Mr. and Mrs. Walker started with him to a doctor’s office in Eddy.  Four miles from their destination, one of the automobile’s tires went flat and they flagged a passing automobile with four passengers.  They carried the mother and baby to Eddy where they were told the boy was dead.  One of the unknown passengers pressed $100 in the mother’s hand.
