Robert “Bob” John Truhlar Sr , 85, of China Spring, Texas and Lincoln, Nebraska, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at a local, hospital on Saturday, January 25, 2014, with his wife, Sally Jo McLennan Truhlar by his side.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco with the Rev. Michael Copeland officiating. Burial at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, January 28, at Lake Shore Funeral Home.

Bob was born November 1, 1928 in Schuyler, Nebraska to Czech immigrants Vincencie Martinek Truhlar and James Vaslav Truhlar. He attended schools in Schuyler and Hastings, Nebraska. After graduation he attended Hastings College and graduated from Western Union Teletype and Management Schools in Crawfordsville and Vincennes, Indiana, he became a station manager for Western Union throughout the mid-west, the Dakotas, and Nebraska. Bob was known for his ability to type 120 words per minute without error. Associates recalled that he sent President Eisenhower’s speech at Mt. Rushmore to the press so fast and perfect that those receiving it thought it had been transmitted by machine. Bob continued his education at the University of Nebraska, and graduated from the Lincoln School of Commerce. He was employed at Kingery Construction Co., a large general contractor, for 22 years, first as a bookkeeper and then accountant. Another bookkeeper remarked that his books were the most beautiful she had ever seen.

Bob enjoyed a good joke, comedy, putting on firework displays on holidays, CB radio contacts, RC aircraft, metal detecting, all kinds of music, and travel. He and his family toured coast to coast in the U.S. and Canada on many vacations, visiting historic sites and landmarks. Bob and Sally Jo also took trips to Scotland, Ireland, and England. He was united in marriage to Sally Jo McLennan in Waco, Texas on June 18, 1960 and they made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska until their retirement, sharing time between China Spring and Lincoln, traveling with their four-legged family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward F. Truhlar; and sisters Blance Truhlar Coplen, Libblie A. Truhlar, and Mary Ann Truhlar Biglin.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sally Jo; daughter, Mary Louise Truhlar Frauen and husband, Todd of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Robert John Truhlar, Jr., of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Shiloh Frauen of Portland, Oregon, Ian Frauen, Sierra Frauen and Sean Frauen, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; six nieces; three nephews; and a wonderful group of extended family, neighbors and friends.

Pallbearers will be Mike Cummings, Marvin Schutza, Burt Schutza, Laughlin Gordon, Jerry Garrett and Ricky Talbert.
