Dorothy Lee Talbert, 93, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Services will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 18, with the Rev. Josephine Roberts and the Rev. Brad St. Romain officiating. Interment will be at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey on Bosque Blvd.
Dot was born January 28, 1920, in Port Lavaca, to Maude Etta Montier and Matthew Pitts Rylander. She graduated from Lillie Jolly School of Nursing as an R.N. She married the love of her life, Milton Talbert, Sr., December 14, 1940. They made their home in Houston before moving to the Talbert family ranch in 1953. Dot was involved in church and community activities including: Women of St. Paul’s, PTA, the Civic Club. She was the first woman elected to the China Spring School Board, and she helped administer the first public polio immunizations. She was an astute business woman. Her Merry Wood Poodles Kennel took several miniature poodles to National Championships. She and Patsy Thomas opened Show and Tell Antiques in Waco, now run by son, Milton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Talbert Sr.; sons, Thomas Matthew and Lee Talbert; her parents; one sister Lorraine Caffall; and two brothers, Wesley Mack Rylander and Charles Lloyd Rylander.
Survivors include sons, Milton Jr., and wife, Tot, and Richard Patrick; grandchildren, Tracy Larsen and husband, Michael, Julie Talbert and husband, Nick Webb, Todd Talbert and wife, Michelle, and Brad Talbert and wife, Marta; great-grandchildren, Sam and Ella Webb, Luke and Ada Larsen, Reece and Chance Talbert, and Madison and Grace Talbert; and extended family, Mike and Patti Tamberella, the Thomas family and the Langford family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hodges, Lighthouse Hospice Staff, Lanie Fioretti, Karen Demmitt, and Nancy and Charles Ferguson for their special loving care, concern, and support during her illness.
Pallbearers are Michael Larsen, Nick Webb, Todd Talbert, Brad Talbert, Mike Tamberella, Bill Thomas, Joe Thomas and Charles Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Neal, Glen Schlofelt, Tom Gearry, Carl Rogers, Les Callison, John Davis Ferguson, Tod Musil, Troy Andrews, Jim Langford, and James Comer.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Paul’s School, China Spring Cemetery Association or the China Spring Volunteer Fire Department.
