Services for Dr. John Larry Payne, 38, of Bryan, will be at 4 p.m. today at Wilkirson-Hatch Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Wesley Wellborn officiating. Burial will be in China Spring Cemetery.

Dr. Payne, who died in Carthage, was born Sept. 7, 1949, in Dallas. He graduated from DeSoto High School. He married Marsha Thedford on Aug. 8, 1969 in Dallas. He received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1972, a masters degree in 1975, and a doctorate in August 1988. He was an instructor at Panola Junior College in Carthage.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha Payne of Bryan; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. John O. Payne of DeSoto, formerly of China Spring; two sons, Randle Scott Payne and Dennis Todd Payne, both of Bryan; sister, Carol Denise Smith of Seagoville; grandmother, Mrs. Oscar (Annie Pearl) Payne of China Spring.
