Jewel was the daughter of Will and Minnie (Bost) Jordan. She had lived most of her life in the area and was a retired uniform manager for the Waco VA Hospital. On Jan. 22, 1970, she married Robert L. Payne.

A grandson, David L. Christie; three brothers and a sister, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Robert, of Waco; daughters, Doris L. Christie, of Hemet, Calif., Patsy Witt and husband, Homer, of Little Rock, Ark.; stepchildren, Robert L. Payne, Jr. and wife, Robin, of Bryan; Elaine Sifford and husband, Daniel, of Kilgore; Keith Payne of Oxnard, Calif.; grandchildren, Gayle, Michael, Linda, Stephen, Monica and Janie; step-grandchildren, Micah, Mason, Lois, Daniel, Christina, Dwayne and Matthew; eight great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
