Retired Lt. Col.  John Frederic  Olszewski of Waco, a retired electrician, died Thursday at a local hospital.  He was 80.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at China Spring Cemetery, Chaplain Curtis Holland officiating.

Mr. Olszewski was born May 25, 1915, in New Bedford, Mass., and moved to Jersey City, N.J., at an early age.  He joined the U. S. Army Engineer Corps in 1941 and after serving two years became a navigator with the U. S. Air  Force.  He was engaged in Air Transport Operations in the European, Middle East, Asiatic and Pacific Theaters.  He later participated in the Green Project Mission, transporting men from European to Pacific theaters.

He separated from active duty and joined the 9252nd and 9253rd Air Force Reserve Squadrons in New Jersey as an instructor in staff development.  At night he attended Brooklyn Polytech and Fairleigh Dickinson in Rutherford, N.J.  He returned to his former position as electrician at Public Service Electric Generation Station in Kearney, N.J., retiring in 1977.  He had been a Waco resident for the past 18 years.  A son, Richard Olszewski, died in 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Dosher Olszewski of Waco; two sisters, Genevieve Olszewski of Jersey City, N. J., and  Stephanie Mohrohoff of Gardeners, Penn.; and a brother, Felix Olszewski of Sarasota, Fla.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 today at the Wilkirson-Hatch Funeral Home in Waco.
