C.V. “Ole” Olson Sr., 82, a devoted husband, father and family provider of McGregor, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor, with Chaplain Greg Knippa officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at Cole Funeral Home.
Carl Vernon was born in Mosheim, Texas, to the late Fred and Verna Beatrice (Helm) Olson. Carl attended school in Mosheim. From 1945 to his honorable discharge in 1946, he served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He was a former member of the Bryant Oliver Post of the American Legion in McGregor. On Dec. 20, 1947, he married Doris Laverne Amundson in the Norse Community of Bosque County. Much of his life was spent as a firefighter. For 35 years he was employed by the City of Dallas as a firefighter prior to his 1977 retirement. Throughout his life, he enjoyed woodworking, making canes, flying airplanes, hunting, fishing, working with CB radios, grafting pecan trees and loving all kinds of animals.
Preceding him in death were brothers, R.C. Olson, Fred Amos Olson and Billy Joe Olson.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Olson, of McGregor; son, Carl “Buddy” Olson Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Belton; daughters, Nancy Adam and husband, Russell, of Lorena, Karen Owens Watts and husband, Gary, of Hurst, Connie Langley and husband, Ron, of Cleburne; grandchildren, Brian Owens, Jeremy Owens, Mellissa Alexander, Christie Tork, Kyle McGonigal, Shawn Adam, Jeffrey Adam, and Jennifer Sykora; and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Jean Crelia Horton and husband, Jim, of McGregor; and many other loving
family members and friends.
