Luther (John) Newton, 71,of 1314 North fifteenth Street died at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday in a local hospital.

Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Wilkirson-Hatch chapel, Rev. Hoyt Hunnicutt officiating, burial in China Spring cemetery.

Survivors:  His wife; eight daughters, Mrs. Claude (Marie) Jaynes of China Spring, Mrs. Bobbie R. (Lola) Toten of China Spring, Mrs. Frank (Doris) Fitzhugh of 1104 Somerset, Mrs. Loyd (Mary Ann) Kelly of 1000 North Fifty-eighth, Mrs. Peggy Rhoades of 6625 Dunn, Mrs. E. (Helen) Mathis of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Richard (Jeanie) Melton of Houston; Mrs. Costine (Nancy) Taylor of Dallas; a son, Gary Newton of 1630 McKenzie; a sister, Mrs. Clay Saunders of Bridgeport, Texas; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
