Bill Newman, 62, of China Spring, died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Providence Health Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at China Spring United Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Grant officiating. Burial will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Bill was born in Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Texas. He graduated from Waco High School in 1962, and then served for a brief period in the U.S. Navy. After he returned to Waco, he worked for several years as a radio disc jockey. He married Carolyn Jean McClain, in Hubbard, on Feb. 14, 1970. He was employed at Owens Illinois Glass Plant from August 1966 until he was laid-off
during downsizing in October 1984. After the glass plant, he worked in electronics at Montgomery Wards until he went to work for Gordon Rountree Used Cars in August 1990. He was employed by Rountree until April 2006.

Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn, on June 26, 1994.

Survivors include his son, Cody Newman and wife, Randi, of Harker Heights; mother, Hazel Haik, of Waco; mother-in-law, Alice Ruth McClain, of Hubbard; half-sisters, Becky Haik, of Waco and Paula Sais, of DeSoto; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
