Howard E. Nelson, Sr., 65, of China Spring, died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Wilkirson-Hatch Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Jeff Williams and Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will be at China Spring Cemetery.
Mr. Nelson was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Leesville, LA. He married Margie Robinson on March 22, 1946 in Waco. He was a jail administrator for the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department for 15 years, retiring in 1988. He previously was a patrolman in the Waco Police Department for 10 years and a constable for six years. Mr. Nelson was a member of Grace Baptist Church in China Spring and the China Spring Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Darlene Ewing of Fredericksburg; son, Howard E. Nelson, Jr of China Spring; three sisters, Joyce Behringer of Valley Mills, Jeannie Balch of Speegleville, and Lois Smith of Waco; brother, Allen Nelson of DeSoto; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
