John Dowdy, Jr. was married to Edith Campbell and had six children: John, David, Leslie Ann, Richard, Dean and Mark. He was a WWII veteran who was on the shores of Normandy on DDay. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
John Frank Dowdy, Jr., 85, of China Spring died Saturday at a local hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at China Spring Cemetery with the Rev. David Story officiating. The Family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.
He was born in Kingston, Okla., Feb. 24, 1913. He attended schools there, graduating from Kingston High School. He was a World War II veteran and received a bronze star. He married Miss Edith Campbell June 6, 1946, in Las Vegas, N.M. He was an air traffic controller for over 40 years. He was very active in Lions Club Little League and served as honorary coach at China spring high School. he was a member of Richfield Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife May 16, 1996; a brother, Jack Dowdy; and a sister, Oma Mutz.
Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Warner and her husband, Don, of Garland; five sons, John Frank Dowdy III of Garland, David C. Dowdy and his wife, Linda, of Plano, Richard C. Dowdy and his wife, Judy, of Colleyville, Texas, Dean Dowdy of China Spring and Mark C. Dowdy of Garland; two sisters, Hazel Nelson of Madil, Okla., and Doris Walthrop and her husband, Bob; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
