Reverend James L. Densman, 62, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Davis with the Reverend Kenneth Branam of Irving, Texas, Doctor Mike Smith of Grapevine, Texas, and Reverend Maurice McLeroy of Cypress, Texas officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, at the China Spring Cemetery in China Spring, Texas.
James was born December 4, 1948 in Marlin, Texas to Lloyd and Avalyn (Saxon) Densman. He and Elaine R. Burt were married on April 30, 1972 at Baylor University, Miller Chapel, Waco, Texas. He was a proud, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved God and pastoring his churches and was a devout Baylor University alumni and supporter.
James graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in May, 1973. He completed his Masters of Arts degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in May, 1976. He started his ministry work at McClanahan Baptist Church in Marlin, Texas in 1970 with pastorates at Navarro Mills Baptist Church, Gatesville, Smithville, Groesbeck, Haskell, and Navasota, Texas. In 1990, James became pastor at First Baptist Church, Hollis, and in 1999, he became pastor at the First Baptist Church, Davis, where remained until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, Joshua and Blanche Saxon, Jack and Jewel Densman, his father and mother-in-law Charles and Rosalyn Burt, and his brother-in-law Tommy Burt.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine of the home; his children, Sarah Beth of Lewisville, Texas; Joshua Charles and his wife Cristy of Spring Hill, Tenn.; Mary Rachel of Carrollton, Texas; one grand-daughter, Hannah Rose Densman of Spring Hill, Tenn.; and one brother, Danny Densman and his children Joe Lloyd and Crystal all of San Antonio.
