Hazel was born September 23, 1946, in Waco, Texas, to Purvey and Katy Toten. Hazel attended China Spring and Bosqueville schools. After high school, she became a cosmetologist and ran her own salon for quite some time. Later in life she went back to school and attended St. Edwards University where she became a licensed chemical dependency counselor. She worked at Mart TYC for many years before retiring. After retiring, Hazel became a substitute teacher at Bosqueville ISD. She was known as “Grandma” to all of the students there and showed them all the love any grandmother would. She enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with her family and grandkids and most of all trying all the new restaurants that came to town.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Faye Toten; and brothers, Bud (Purvey), Peewee (Alsbury), and Donnie (Donald) Toten.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Chrissy and husband Mike Martin of China Spring; brother Kenneth Toten and wife Patti of Stephenville; grandchildren Mike Martin Jr and fiancé Emma Ritchie of Robinson, Kaylee Martin of Riesel, and Ryan Martin of China Spring. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces who will always hold a special place in her heart.
