James Cobbs, Jr. 83, of Waco, died Wednesday afternoon in a local hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Connally-Compton Downtown Chapel, Rev. Frank Bartos and Rev. Ken Boatman officiating. Burial was in China Spring Cemetery.

Mr. Cobbs was a retired captain of the Waco Fire Department, retiring in 1946 after 26 years of service. He was a member of the Bosqueville Baptist Church and Knights of Pythias. He was the son of pioneer settlers in Bosqueville. His parents, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Cobbs moved to Bosqueville in 1852.

Mr. Cobbs was born in Bosqueville in 1890.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Belle Cobbs; a brother, John S. Cobbs of Waco; and several nieces and nephews.
