Travis Joe “T.J.” Burt, 81, of China Spring,passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at China Spring Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the U.S. Air Force. Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Lake Shore Funeral home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.
T.J. was born Aug. 29, 1930, in the Erath Community near China Spring to Charles A. and Charlcie (Talbert) Burt, and graduated from Waco High School. He married Doris Wells in 1951. T.J. entered the U.S. Air Force and served around the world in American embassies as a cryptographic specialist. He truly enjoyed his military service. After 20 years of service to his country, he retired as Master Sergeant. T.J. then started an 18 year career in the banking industry with First National Bank in Waco, retiring as a Senior Vice-President. While working at the Bank, TJ earned a degree from the Southwestern School of Banking at SMU.
Following the passing of Doris in 1984, T.J. married Vera “Pinky” Dyer in March of 1989. In their retirement, he and Pinky enjoyed travelling. T.J. also served as a Master Mason for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Doris Wells; grandson, Travis Ross Burt; sister, June Smith; and brothers, Charles Burt and Gene Burt.
Survivors include wife, Pinky Burt; son, Brian Burt and wife, Dana; granddaughters, Alison and Erin Burt; step-son, Troy Harrison and wife, Lisa; step-grandson, J.T. Harrison; brother, Al Burt; and sisters, Elsie Garrett, and Sue Littlepage and husband, Joe.
