Dewey Burkhart, 92, of China Spring, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31st at a local hospital.
Graveside Services: 2PM Wednesday, February 4th at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7PM Tuesday, February 3rd at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.
Dewey was born February 4, 1922 in Blackie, KY to Alex and Maggie (Morton) Burkhart. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sgt. during World War II. While stationed at Fort Hood, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Bell. Together, they shared 70 years of happy marriage. In the early 1980s, they moved to China Spring and built a mobile home community. He enjoyed mowing and took pride in keeping his property looking nice. He was a pilot for Plymouth Oil Co. in Midland. He also was a golf professional at Lake Whitney Country Club. He was a longtime member of Lake Waco Golf Club.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alex; and sisters, Wilma and Shirley.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Burkhart of China Spring; son, Bill Burkhart of AZ; grandchildren, Marcus Burkhart and Alexis Burkhart of AZ; and sister, Billie Combs of FL.
