Lillie Morris was born in Wood County, Texas to Washington Perry Morris and Emma or Emily Munday or Monday. Both her parents were born in Texas.

The family moved to adjacent Hopkins County, Texas by 1900. Her father was a farmer. Her Texas death certificate gives her year of birth as September 29, 1888.

As a young woman she was courted by and married an older man, John F Sheets who was 20 years her senior, in Pickton, Hopkins County, Texas in May 1914. Mr. Sheets had been married twice previously in Hot Springs County, Arkansas and his former wives had died prior to his moving to Texas after 1910. Lillie Morris and John F Sheets had one daughter, Lidy Sheets, born of this marriage 26 June 1915 at Pickton.

Lidy later married a Mr Berl Pickett in Hopkins County. She died in 1957 of breast cancer and is buried with her husband in Greenville, Hunt Co, Texas. Lillie’s husband was killed by her father in a family dispute in November 1915. Her father was against the marriage to the older man, but appeared to finally accept it and give his blessings. He went with them to get the marriage license. However, shortly after the marriage, her father came to their house early on a Sunday morning and shot Mr. Sheets, his son Bill Sheets, and two neighbors, Mr and Mrs Maddox, who he thought were encouraging the relationship. The Maddox family had five minor children who were not harmed and sounded the alarm. After shooting and killing these four persons, Mr Morris returned home and took his own life after telling his wife what he had done. He was buried under a tree near the home he resided in by a posse out of Pickton, Texas lead by a Mr. Points, who responded to the news of the killing.

In the 1930 Hopkins Co, Texas census, Lillie, her brother and daughter lived in Northwestern Hopkins County and were farmers. Lillie married Robert Ed Garrett [a neighbor whose wife died in 1932] and lived in Bosque County and Mclennan County.

Her second husband, Robert, preceded her in death and is buried in the Patrick Cemetery, McLennan County, Texas with his first wife. His second wife, Helen L Garrett is buried in the Pickton Cemetery in Hopkins Co, Texas.
