George Washington Payne, 82, died at the home of his daughter Mrs. W. H. Abney, 707 Proctor avenue, at 2:30 yesterday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted from the Methodist Church at China Spring, where the body will be carried by Compton’s motor hearse, by Rev. Daily. Interment wil be in China Spring Cemetery.
He is survived by his widow, seven daughters, Mrs. W. H. Abney, Mrs. Leon Willis and Mrs. Clyde Forest of Waco; Mrs. Allen Keuhn, Misses Mary, Coy and Birdie Payne of China Spring and three sons, G. W. Payne of Globe, Arizona, Will Payne of Axtel and Oscar Payne of China Spring.
He was born in Alabama and came to Texas in 1867. He settled near Waco and has lived in this county since then except for two years in Bosque County.
Active pallbearers are Dock Stewart, George Harris, Lee Ringer, John Martin, Boone Giddins and Ben Jackson.
