On Monday evening, Aug. 7, 2006, just as the sun set in the West, William Samuel “Bunny” Wright, 70, left his earthly home to be in his Savior’s arms and is now enjoying cool drinks of water after a long struggle with throat and lung cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at the China Spring United Methodist Church with Pastor Allen Grant officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the China Spring Cemetery.
Bunny ‘Red’ was born at Rock Creek, Texas, to the late Nellie Doris (Keeling) and Samuel Porter ‘Buster’ Wright. Bunny ‘Red’ worked many years at Allied Fence Company before serving three years in the U.S. Army, two at Fort Sill, Okla., and one at Fort Polk, La., then returned home to work for Central Freight Lines as a mechanic and traveling maintenance supervisor where he retired after thirty years to do what he enjoyed doing the best, working the land, driving his tractors on the farm and raising cattle and being at home at Rock Creek when the sun went down. He served on the China Spring School Board for several years and was instrumental in the School’s Dress Code. He married Yvonne Bethany on Feb. 21, 1958, in Gholson. He had a great love for his family, his many friends, and his church. He had a very big heart and was always a very generous person, willing to help anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his older brother, Alton Clark Wright; sister, Charlene Buckner Raines; and a nephew, Bruce Clark Wright.
He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Yvonne, of Rock Creek; daughter, Rhonda Lawrence and husband, Eddie, of Royse City; grandchildren, Christopher McMaster and wife, Kristen, of Escondido, Calif., Bethany Carter, of Plano, Joe Lawrence and wife, Heather, of Hickory Creek, Jon Lawrence, of Royse City and Jason Lawrence, of Plano; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Joey, and Cheyenne Lawrence; nieces, Deborah Pasley, Teresa Walling and Shirley Buckner; great-niece, Erin Pasley; great-nephew, Clint Walling; brother-in-law, James Bethany and wife, Dian; and nephew, Lonny Bethany.
