Daniel O. “OZ” Merritt, 70, of Lacy Lakeview passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at his home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Merritt officiating. Burial will follow at China Spring Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Daniel Osburn was born in Waco, Texas, to the late James Daniel Merritt and Betty (Hutson) Merritt. He worked for Affiliated Food as a professional driver, retiring with 32 years of service. He received the Two Million Mile safety award and had the highest seniority as a driver. He also received the Special Citizen Award for courage. He enjoyed league bowling and tournaments and ran the Pro-Shop. Daniel enjoyed Bingo and family reunions and especially reunion food. Daniel provided a consistent, stable and secure home for his wife and children.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dan L. Merritt; and a sister, Dana Nell Berger.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Ladell Brock Merritt,  sons, Boyd Merritt, and Marty Merritt and wife, Loretta; daughters, Lisa Powell and husband, Paul, and Shelley Merritt, all of Waco; grandchildren, D.J., Kindra, Cory, Clayton, Kayla, Michael, Preston, London, Kimla, Kara, Malaney; and great-grandchildren, Zoie and Colton; sisters, Ruth Simons, of Waco and Margaret Monsey, of McGregor; brother, Jerry Merritt, of Conroe.
