Ernest L. (E.L.) Lewis 57, of China Spring died Thursday at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today at China Spring Cemetery, the Rev. Norman Suggs officiating.

Mr. Lewis was born March 22, 1932 in Waco.  He had lived in Waco and China Spring all his live an married Patsy Smith on Sept. 2, 195o,  in Gainesville.  He was a maintenance foreman for the Texas Highway Department for 34 years, retiring in 1984.  He also was founder and president of ELCO Pav Mark Inc. in China Spring.  He was a former president of China Spring Saddle  Club and former director of Central Texas Zoological Society.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Michael L. Lewis and Joe L. Lewis, both of China Spring, Richard D. Lewis of DeSoto and J. Kirk Lewis of Waco; a brother, William Nathan Lewis of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.

The family has designated China Spring Volunteer Fire Department for memorials.
