Young Ferguson was struck by a car while selling newspapers about midnight Saturday. He died about 30 minutes later at Providence Hospital.
Patrolman A. P. Vahalik listed Ira Lee Watkins as the driver of the Ford which struck the youth. Watkins stopped immediately after the accident. Vahilik said skid marks at the scene shower the Watkins car skidded about 130 feet before it hit the boy. It knocked him about 40 feet.
Mr. Ferguson, who saw the accident, said a car driven by a woman later identified as Mrs. R. E. Hall of Bellmead stopped, picked up his boy and took him to the hospital.
Another witness, Herschel Autrey of Bellmead, said he was several car lengths behind the car that stuck the boy.
The boy had just turned away from the car where he was selling newspapers when the car in front of me hit him, Autrey said.
Randall was born in Waco and had attended school in Colorado before moving back to Waco. He had just been promoted to fifth grade.
